Cannot configure NIC Gateway 8510GZ

I'm having trouble establishing a network connection with my system. I just installed Bactrack2. My system is a dual boot system (WinXP/Linux). I've read through all the threads as far as getting both wired and wireless devices to work and can't get anywhere.

First when when I tried the command

ifconfig eth0 up

it responds with : SIOCSIFFLAGS: Device or resource busy

Most of the threads I've read advises to turn of Plug-N-Play in the BIOS. I've done that and still no luck.

The second half of my question has to do with the built-in internal wireless. The wireless adapter is an Intel Pro/2200. When I type the command:

iwconfig it returns this response:

lo no wireless extensions
eth0 no wireless extensions

I would appreciate any help anyone out there can share.

Hi,

Did you install the 'intel-wlan-ipw3945' driver?

If not then you can get the driver from here; '/extra/intel-wlan-ipw3945' or the '/extra' directory on the cd3 or the dvd.

You should look at the README_Slackware.TXT;

Quote:
It was pointed out to me that the ieee80211 subsystem in 2.6.21.x
seems to work fine, so the steps to run this on Slackware seem to be:

1. Install the microcode in /lib/firmware.

2. Build and install the kernel module. Make sure something loads it
at boot (I use rc.netdevice).

3. Install the regulatory daemon, and have something like rc.local start
it up.

Have fun!

Pat
If you did install the driver then as root from the cli;

Code:
~#dmesg |grep -i eth       #check for the eth# device
~#lspci -vv #check for device info
~#ifconfig -a              #show what the kernel recognize
~#lsmod                    #show modules
This information will help diagnose your problem. So please post without editing.

BTW, a search on google or LQ would get a lot information relative to this device.
