can i replace nis/nfs with ssh

can the following be done?

computers in our computer farm currently log in with NIS and then mount NFS. i was wondering if they could be made to authenticate by ssh-ing into the server, and then mount the home by means of sshFS from the same server? or can something similar be done with pam-ssh? (the key kept on the server, and the password tested against that key, on success allowing sshFS mounting).

also, (less important) can the clients be made to authenticate against a server that in turn authenticates with winbind? in other words, Client asks Server asks Evil Windows Computer.

I am not sure what is your goal, but a recent KDE based distro has a konqueror "protocol" named "fish" (a KIO_slave).

Opening a konqueror browser and typing at URL field something like "fish://userassword@server/usr/local/etc" then you may browse in the remote filesystem just like a local filesystem.

If you have in place a ssh-agent you can even to leave out the password in the above URL.

cheers

Oh my good, how to disable the smile code in "user : password" ?
