What do you want to do ? Configure the printer, or just print to it ? If the later, the best thing to do is to run Cups (etc.) with verbose logging, to see where it's being held up. It is almost certainly a permissions problem.

wha'ts verbose logging?
"Verbose \Ver*bose"\, a. [L. verbosus, from verbum a word. See {Verb}.] Abounding in words; using or containing more words than are necessary; tedious by a multiplicity of words; prolix; wordy; as, a verbose speaker; a verbose argument." [1913 Webster].

Verbose logging is thus 'overly detailed' logging.

First off, can you "see" the printer (eg. can you ping the IP address ?). If so, you may be better off printing to it as a network printer (use port 9100 for Cups) rather than as a windows/samba printer. If this is not possible, then check that you have the correct permissions and passwords set up for that workgroup.

Also, if you are running a firewall, check that it is not blocking the print process.

Cheers,

mj
