brctl command

Hi,

I have ppc-linux with one interface, eth0. I want to create a TAP interface
and add eth0 and tap0 to br0.

Iam using minicom from another system to connect to the ppc-linux. Iam able
to create a tap and bridge. When i add eth0 to br0 by:
brctl addif br0 eth0, iam not able to ping to the ppc-linux and i lose
control over minicom also. I get the following message on minicom:
nfs: server 10.60.4.56 not responding, still trying

This shouldn't happen as all the packets should now be handled by the bridge. Am i missing anything here?

Thanks,
Dhanesh.
