boot options

i have suse 9.1 and i would like to make my booting time a bit shorter.
some process related to my network card always takes up 15 seconds of booting time and returns "failed" every time.

it is under "Setting Up Network Devices" in verbose mode.
it shows some devices and then starts
Waiting For Mandatory Devices: <my ethernet card number here>....
then it does a countdown from 15 and returns failed.

seems very pointless to me. is there a way to shorten this time? to stop this checking or to make it find the device it is looking for?
