For tape backup you can use
tar
dump (full backup)
cpio
etc
Here is simple example:
assuming that your tape driver is /dev/st0
See tape drive staus:

mt -f /dev/st0 status
Rewind the tape:

mt -f /dev/st0 rewind
To backup /home/httpd dir:

tar -cvf /dev/st0 /home/httpd
