Apache on Redhat 7.1

I'm having problems running Apache from Redhat 7.1 Server.....

When I run '[root@Bugtel /]# /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd start'

Apache fails to load. When I try 'stop' 'restart' 'reload' 'condrestart' I get a failed also....

When I run './httpd' from the command line I get a 'Segmentation Fault (core dumped)'.

When I run ' [root@Bugtel /]# gdb where core 'I get:

GNU gdb 5.0rh-5 Red Hat Linux 7.1

This GDB was configured as "i386-redhat-linux"...where: No such file or directory.

Core was generated by `httpd lookup'.
Program terminated with signal 11, Segmentation fault.

I've also tried:

(gdb) backtrace
#0 0x0806b22f in ?? ()
#1 0x08067c69 in ?? ()
#2 0x08056cbe in ?? ()
#3 0x080607b0 in ?? ()

I'm running the default (installed version) httpd in:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/

Any ideas?

Jeff

I solved the problem myself-by simply adding it to the xinetd.d at startup-and now everything seems to be working ok.

However, when 'user' upload s a page (index.html) to '/home/user/public_html' the file gets a 'permission denied' when trying to access 'http://localhost/~user/index.html AND http://localhost/~user/'

Do I need to put .htaccess files in each user's dir in order to allow viewing by public?

I am also recieving this error - it appeared to pop up after loading TripWire, was this common to your install?

What did you put in xinetd.d?
