Exclamation Any easy way to get SMB Samba V1 active?

Hi there

As mentioned in opther posts, I'm kinda new o linux, so still trying to wrap my head a lot around just how everything works, ... terminal, commands, etc ... pretty overwhleming.

With that said ... being really optimistic (even if short lived) ... any way to activite SMB V1?
I heard that latest SAMBA etc have disable SMB 1 for security reasons etc ... but my external drive only works on SMB v1 via a router ... it's only obtion currently to access it via network (that I know of) ... when i grow up one day I'll get a NAS drive.
My ipad has no problem accessing the SMB v1 on my home network ... thought it would be a breeze with Linux, frustrated to discover it's the opposite!

TIA

It depends on what distribution / version you are running and the samba version installed. Even Microsoft has disabled/removed SMB V1 from Windows.

client min protocol = NT1
server min protocol = NT1
ntlm auth = ntlmv1-permitted

samba 4.10.18 (as far as I know) was the last version that supports SMB V1 and if your running something later the only thing you can basically do is download that version from samba.org and build it from source. If you are running <= 4.10.18 then it is probably just disabled and you can enable it via the following directives in your smb.conf file.
Even the latest Samba supports SMBv1, it is just turned off by default. The question has to be, why would anyone want to use such an insecure protocol as SMBv1 ?

I stand corrected if you add client min protocol = NT1 to the global section of your smb.conf you should be able to access the router.

I don't know why.
