Any easy way to get SUSE 10 to reset video drivers?

I need 3d support to be working... It was working intially when I installed SUSE 10, but not after I tried and removed the buggy ATI proprietary(sic) driver for my card.

I've got the old driver back, but I've lost hardware 3d support according to my 3d games/applications. Any way to get SUSE to start over from scratch with the display configuration? Any way to properly configure/enable 3d support.

3d acceleration IS enabled in SAX2, but it doesn't seem to have any effect on the 3d software I'm trying to use. Same error message occurs either way I set it.

Not very elegant, but maybe re-installing the X server helps.
