Angry All internet traffic needs to go through a proxy!

Hi,

I have got a linux computer working on my schools network. To access the internet we need to go through a proxy. I have been able to configure Mozilla to go through the proxy (10.195.88.14:80), but need to use other applications to access the internet that do not have such proxy settings.

Does anyone know of some sort of daemon that can "tunnel" all http, https and ftp traffic through that proxy?

I am running Fedora Core 2.6.5-1 (tettnang) on an i586 (Celeron 533)

Sorry, I forgot to add that I have also tried using the 'default gateway' option on the network device configuration.

Proxy IP: 10.195.88.14
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

export http_proxy=<settings>
(?)

I think you can set permanent global proxies by setting export http_proxy in /etc/profile.

However, this is inadvisable as it can have unforseen effects.

Generally, all the apps which want internet access should have some means of working through a proxy built into them. It may not be obvious though.

YUM for eg, needs to have proxy settings placed in yum.conf

So what are these applications which think they cannot find the proxy by themselves?

Ximian Evolution and the command-line ftp client do not seem to have "built-in" proxy software.
