All local traffic through proxy

Hi,
I have a SOCKS proxy on port 9203.
Is there anyway to make all traffic go through that proxy? all the software that doesn't have proxy configuration built in.
So some configuration that will redirect every program to connect through the proxy, except the proxy itself, which must have a direct connection (using ppp0).
I'm using Fedora Core 3.

I know for one thing you can use iptables to redirect a network traffic through squid. You can possibly use it to redirect traffic into a proxy as well.

but I need to redirect traffic that originates on the same computer as the proxy/squid is installed... if I make an iptables rule, won't it redirect everything? so the traffic that wants to go out of the proxy to the internet, back to the proxy?
