advice on connecting a LAN to an SDSL modem/VPN router behind redhat 9.0
hi there, not a newbie but want to make sure that i am on the right track.
The aim of the setup is connect a LAN thru the redhat 9.0 as a gateway/firewall/dns/cache/dhcp server to an SDSL coonecting using a VPN router.
the former setup before was using a win2k server with a client behind making a connecting with an account and a special ip and connecting to the net and doing ICS to enable others get access.
Now i will want the redhat to automate the tasks of connecting directly on boot to the ISP and immediately giving internet access to the clients behind the LAN.
From experience, i ll want to first make sure the redhat is setup with the right information about the ISP accounts, the required IP address for the NIC (eth0 will be the external network card interface), etc so that the redhat can inititate the connection at boot and therefore be connected to the internet.
This will be accomplished by setting the right parameters in both the network settings and the xDSL connection wizard.
Then once the redhat is on the internet, i can start my LAN by setting up a DHCP server to issue dynamic ips, a nameserver that uses the ISP dns, a squid cache server for proxying and lastly setting my routing and firewall rules.
Pls i wud like to know whether i am on the right track, i am more concerned about the xDSL connection (i assume that i will be using pppOE for this) as i know how to setup the LAN. this is my first time dealing with an xDSL connection.
Thanks
