In win xp to get dsl i just give my computer a certin name
how do i do the same in linux guiemail me

a certain name?? to "get" dsl over an ethernet modem connection just set that interface to be brought up by dhcp, e.g your /etc/ssyconfig/networks-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 file should read somethign like

DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
ONBOOT=yes
DHCP_HOSTNAME=trevor

the last line is optional, but maybe that's what you mean, if it is then that's a funny system they have going there.
