Access windows shares from Linux
I'm not exactly a n00b at linux, but i'm missing something simple on this one.
when i try to access windows XP shares from my linux box, it requests a username and password, but the shares are not password protected.

hey dude
i just had this problem myself.
my workaround was to give "guest" permission to the share, and then have the username=guest, password= [blank]
that worked for me

The easiest and most secure thing to do is to create a user account with appropriate privileges on the WinXP box and to make the connection using that name and password. Think of it as Samba in reverse. I don’t like leaving anonymous holes in XP boxes. They have enough problems to begin with.

i was trying to use gnomba, which for some reason wouldn't connect. When i used the command line, everything worked. I still don't know why gnomba doesn't work.
