I've been reading what the latest Google Maps wants to do, and not allowing the update. It wants the following

* System tools - prevent your phone from sleeping (OK)
* Your personal information - read your contacts (NOT OK)
* Storage - modify or delete the contents of your usb storage (NOT OK)
* Your location - Approximate (network-based) location, precise (GPS) location (OK)
* Network - Control near field communication, full network access (NOT OK)
* Your accounts - Add or remove accounts, use any account on the device (NOT OK)

So it wants permission to take all my data/storage/contacts, beam them up, and format my device? In return, it offers the following 'extra features'

faster access to navigation, complete with route & traffic; overview
Improved hotel search results with sponsored rates (=ads, I suppose) & booking links (=more ads)

No suprise on the rest, and I'd take rougly the same position as you did business_kid. (not on GPS). But 'modify or delete the contents of your usb storage' is well beyond the pale.

I have the N9 as well. Never used it. One of the disadvantages is that one needs to have a Nokia account to use the official repositories.

I also have the Nokia N900, which is the only on that I use.

If someone wants to buy my Nokia N9, I could sell it since its just dusting down.

I would assume the modify USB storage is so it can save offline maps. The current version still supports offline maps its just not on a menu option. I've had to roll back to the old version anyway the latest maps UI is so iphone like its unuseable.

If I could find a calendar app that would sync with something outside of Google I'd be happy.
