Kies, iTunes, are good option for data backup. I believe the OP was looking for a Linux based backup solution.
I thought this is something related to custom recovery and rom flashing. Anyway, you can backup and restore phone with MobileGo. It's quite impressive.
You can try Gmail to back up your phone or Samsung kies if y're Android users, also try iTunes or iCloud if you're iOS users. Or take a look at this article to backup and restore Android phone.
I run Android OS and backup with this gudie backup android.

i have used cwm and philz, but now use twrp,
the os choice is disappointing, and like some of you said before, its tricky cause you can bricky
mainly software brick since i saw some guys do some magic, they have special tools, and theres also jtag, but its not something anyone can do/repair, like a pc with linux
Thanks for you suggestion, to backup data from phone to computer, you can only use professional data backup tool to backup them , or use some data transfer tool to transfer data to computer for backup, the Android data manager and Android phone transfer tool are good at user to transfer data or backup data , i think the first approach is better,
Because i often use it to backup or transfer Android messages to computer ,feel good
