x server broken after installing Bumblebee

Hi

I have managed to break my x-server by installing Bumblebee, in an attempt to reduce the fan noise on my vaio laptop. When I reboot i get the message x-server broken. I have tried various methods to overcome the problem but have failed. Can anyone help.

I am using the nvidia drivers in mint 17.2

boot on an install cd, grab a terminal and mount your root drive somewhere(/mnt is usually free). Change /etc/innittabto read
Quote:
initdefault:3
instead of 'initdefault:5.' Ten you boot to console. log in and type startx to boot X. You sould have /var/log/Xorg.0.log, or you can run

Quote:
startx >X.err 2&>1; less X.err

...just to explain:
we would be interested in the output of startx, which is captured in the X.err file in the example above.

also it should read "change /etc/inittab to..."
but, business_kid, are you sure linux mint uses an inittab? my debian jessie doesn't have one (and i have no *buntu to check).

in any case, housemartin, the idea is to get at the log file of the Xsession. there's different ways to achieve that.
as a file, it's usually in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

The idea was to get a better flow of errors. The log file captures system errors also.
Are you using systemd? Theres some way of altering runlevel with that.
