Question Installing with broken CD-ROM?

I want to install Linux, but I have a broken cd rom. What are the other install options? Can I download something with windows onto a floppy or USB
drive? Can i do a network install from inside windows after dowloading
a small file? I have a USB 64MB card, but my bios doesn't let me boot from it.

with floppy drive that's possible, see this site:
if you want to install another distro, download ISO file corresponding to this distro. You will have the choice at this site.
There are 'iso extracting' Windows programs that will allow you to copy the entire cdrom image to a hard drive. You can then do an install or update.

SUSE allows installations from FTP sources.

you must download thier "Jumpstart" disk, which loads a basic install program and allows you to connect to a installation source. go to any site that has the suse distirbution, and look for the only .ISO file.... it is 40MB. this iso file can be used to create the bootable cdrom I mentioned above. if you dont know how to deal with ISO files, google that shit.

good luck

With some distros (Mandrake for sure) you can download the iso to your Windows partition (as long as its not NTFS) and install from that partition.

I've done network installs but never within windows. It seems possible though, all you have to do is set the windows machine up as a ftp server.
