Using L675 Toshiba with only single partition Linux mint 17. It shows Bluetooth/Bluetooth manager both installed. However it fails to recognize as an example this kindle booted nor its Bluetooth keyboard. New to Bluetooth and need pairing advice

Try installing/reinstalling the bluez package. I know that on Crunchbang this is necessary despite the packages being installed by default.

Bluetooth challenge

I thank you for this interest and suggestion, but I am beginning to suspect it must be something not real evident. At any rate I have Bluetooth on my kindle so I will continue totry on mint. Oh I even re-partioned and added Ubuntu and yep cannot get recognition there either. Obviously a Toshiba thing. as an aside interesting your being in South Africa. I am in Texas and have a grandson who just marries a girl from there

It's a small World as they say
As to getting Bluetooth to work on any Linux box, it can frustrating. There should not be much difference between Mint and Ubuntu in this regard though.
On Crunchbang it 'just works' once the packages are installed. (although I must launch the systray applet manually using alt+f2 and typing bluetooth-applet)
