* When asking a question, be sure to provide as many relevant details as possible. You should include the distribution and version you're using, along with hardware details, application version and exact error messages where applicable.
* Using a descriptive title will vastly increase the number of members who see your thread, and therefore make a response significantly more likely.
* If you're actively troubleshooting an issue you should also include any steps you've already taken.
* You may want to include how what you are experiencing differs from what you expected to experience.
* Before posting, have you used the search function to ensure your question hasn't been asked before?
* You can edit your post by clicking the EDIT button in the bottom right corner of your message.
Please remember that your questions and the replies that you receive become a permanent resource available to others. External links come and go so it is important for future visitors that you provide your own details to support your well formed questions in your posts here.
Also, cross-posting the same questions to multiple sites is generally considered rude as it can waste the time of members on one site who provide an answer after you have resolved the issue on another site.
Got told that posting the same thing on forums was BAD. Now I'm told it's good...?
Re-read astrogeek's post. If you'd like an answer on THIS forum, then post your QUESTION on this forum. But asking us to chase things down on multiple sites just so we can give you help is plain rude.
Did you run Bleachbit as an ordinary user or as root?
Some advice. If you're going to be trying out lots of programs, and running potentially damaging software such as Bleachbit (at least until you get used to it), you would be best taking occasional system images (using, for example, Timeshift in Mint). That way you can roll back your system if something you install/remove causes you problems. It will also mean that you don't have to reinstall Mint.
if you're going to sow your seeds in more than one place hoping for a hit, its better to learn how to copy past the text and not the web address to the other one. just saying.
Got told that posting the same thing on forums was BAD.
Now I'm told it's good...?
nobody said the second thing.
the first thing is true. you should (re-)describe your problem, and add additonal info that has emerged since your last post on mint forum.
adding a link to the previous thread is not wrong per se.

Going to be looking at other distros because I find Mint a bit glitchy for my use.
most distros will do that; you probably uninstalled something essential.
but i tend to agree that linux mint is sleek & shiny only as long as you don't tinker with it.
take what happened as a warning: there's no safety tape on Linuxes. the responsibility is all yours, so be careful.
