Unhappy installers quit

I'm stumped. I try to install the VNC package, and the Preparing SYstem Update screen flashes, and nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? RedHat9, all service updates installed.

are you installing an RPM, tar.gz?

How are you trying to install it?

More details would help us solve your problem.

THIS ISNT WINDOWS, YOU DONT JUST "DOUBLE CLICK" THINGS.

In a terminal, install the rpm like:

rpm -Uvh /path/to/rpm/[rpm_name].rpm

Be sure you are root when doing this.

To become root in a terminal, type "su" and enter your root password.

well, i'm always good for a laugh. i like the abrasiveness of your response, keeps me on my toes. I won't stop asking the dumb questions though, I'm not afraid! Seriously though, thank you and I'll think of an even dumber question soon I'm sure! Also, check out the new strong bad email @ www.homestarrunner.com.
