Desktop Icons disappeared suddenly !

Good evening everyone,
First of all thank you for allowing me to register on this forum. This afternoon, my desktop lost all the icons that I had installed (trash, PC, network ....). The icons in the taskbar are always present. Another detail that seems interesting to report, when I right click on the desktop, nothing happens and there are more options to change the wallpapers. Aged 68, I recently started on Mint 19.1, and I am not a champion of Linux; Thank you in advance for helping me.
Best regards
Rick (camelman)

I've not experienced anything like this.

My first thought is to take a look at the log files around the approximate time that this happened to see whether any anomalies leap out at you.

Presuming Cinnamon desktop, try this - simple to try and can't do any harm. No need to create the start-up launcher unless it keeps happening.
I had similar with a (much) earlier version of Mint, and I simply re-installed the desktop package from memory.

Good Morning Gentlemen and thank you for your responses. To be more specific on the Linux Mint distribution here is the description:
RELEASE=19.1
CODENAME=tessa
EDITION="Cinnamon"
DESCRIPTION="Linux Mint 19.1 Tessa"
DESKTOP=Gnome
TOOLKIT=GTK

frankbell, i have no clue about the exact time the problem appeared for the first time.
Thanks both again for your help
Regards
Rick

Thank you very much Grandmaster syg00 for your advice and the link you gave me: actually I followed the procedure described and after restarting my PC, I found my icons "magically".
Thanks a million and best regards.
