Wireless ipw2200 help

Hi all, i new to linux and ie jus installed mandrake 10.1 on my Acer TM4001LMI notebook. Having problems wif the wireless, and i´ve searched ard forums and basically, my understanding is that to get it to work, i have to

1. download and install ipw2200.
2. download and install acerhk and add some lines in rc.sysinit to switch on the Wi-Fi.

but i when try to do a make with ipw2200, i get the following error.

make -C /lib/modules/2.6.8.1-12mdk/build SUBDIRS=/usr/src/ipw2200-1.0.0 MODVERDIR=/usr/src/ipw2200-1.0.0 modules
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.8.1-12mdk/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
make: *** [modules] Error 2

i pretty much lost on wat to do next. pls advice....

and wat lines do i have to edit in rc.sysinit to switch on the wifi? the site i found simply posted his whole rc.sysinit file and i dun know wats been changed....

thks ppl.

If you install the latest kernel 2.6.14 then this module is standard. So you won't have to compile it yourself but you can load as module for example.

If you have installed 2.6.14 you don't need the ipw sources anymore, so if you got any error messages, it must be a different one. You just need hotplug to load it for you, that is, considering the 2.6.14 kernel from Mandrake has ipw support. Your distros' boot process should take care of loading it.

Suggestion

Did you install the kernel-devel[version].rpm package?, I needed it prior to install my wireless card in FC4 and the ieee80211-1.1.6.tgz?. Also maybe you could take a look here
