Volume wont change using XF86AudioMute etc..

Im having some werid trouble trying to get my multimedia keys to bind to the correct action

keycode 174=XF86AudioLowerVolume
keycode 176=XF86AudioRaiseVolume
keycode 160=XF86AudioMute

I stuck that in .xmodmaprc and everything seems to work, when i press the correct key it shows up as the XF86Audio etc..

Strangely the volume (which should change when i press the key) doesnt. Im at a total loss as to whats wrong - am i missing something? I'm using Centos 5.3

Any hints in the right direction would be real handy

thanks

The keysyms aren't commands in themselves, they just specify what signal the keys will register as when pressed. You still have to bind them to usable commands (such as adjusting audio). There should be a way to set hotkeys for adjusting the sound in your desktop environment or media mixer somewhere, and you should be able to use the new keys there.

Another useful way to bind multimedia keys to commands is to use the xbindkeys program.
