Toshiba Satalite 2540CDS - Problems with installing Debian

Hi!
Well i got a big problem while "installing" Debian, the version I have is netinst i386 3.1r4.

Here's the error:

While "Detecting hardware to find CD-ROM"
it comes to 2% and gives me "Loading module "yenta_socket" for Toshiba America Info Systems ToPIC97'...

And the the system freezes, complitley... Any ideas?

P.S. Please don't give me anwsers like "install another operating system", I like Debian and i want to have it

Tnx in advance.

I know you do not want to here it. If your use is for server then use the debian but just for home use use ubuntu it has a lot more support for desktop and it comes with a lore of nice packages and its debian based for you get all the same commands.

as for your error never seen it.

I have Kubuntu server installed on a 2545xcdt. Not sure about debian.

The problem I had with my install was it would stall if the pcmcia wireless card was in. Had to remove it and install. Things worked after that.

Anyway, I believe K/Ubuntu is debian based. Not sure how much difference there is.

the problem is that this laptop has too litle ram to run KDE, thats why i wanted to install debian with XFCE.

Yes ubuntu is debian based but like i said too little ram to run KDE. Does is there a distro of Linux, that is Debian based and uses Gnome? I heard that Gnome does not need that much ram as KDE

The server install from the alternate cd does not install X at all. You get a basic system running from the command line.

Check out this link -- https://help.ubuntu.com/community/In...wMemorySystems

After installing the basic server install you can add whatever windows manager you wish, as well as, whatever software.
