Trouble installing Debian on Toshiba

Hello everyone. I need help installing Debian on a Toshiba Satellite 2100CDS. I downloaded the full install iso, CD #1. The first download failed the MD5 checksum, so I downloaded again. The second download passed. I burnt the image, and proceeded to try to install on my laptop. When it starts, it gives me the "Press F1 for help or ENTER to boot:" statement. If I press F1 and type linux26 for the 2.6 kernel, it gives me the following error:

isolinux: Disk error 20, AX = 4235, drive 82

If I just hit enter, it allows me to choose a language, country or region, and a keymap, and proceeds to detect hardware. At the 2% stage, it stalls while trying to load" module 'yenta_socket" for "Toshiba America Info Systems ToPIC97'".

I have Debian etch running on my desktop, and have installed Debian on 4 different computers, so I am familiar with the install process. I have not, however, installed any form of Linux onto a laptop, so I am a little lost here. The laptop currently has Windows 98 successfully running on it, so I believe the drive is OK. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like it may be a bad burn. Two things to try - first see if the disk works on another pc or laptop (if one is available). Second is to try a re-burn at a slower speed - I get good results at 4x.

Sorry about the double post. It might be a bad burn. I burnt 4 CDs yesterday all the way down to 8X. I had different results every time. Some started with a "Missinf Operating System", while others made it to half way through stalling with "Cannot install adduser". The image was downloaded with jigdo, and passed the MD5 checksum, and was burned with Nero 6.0.
I have also had trouble in the past burning full images. When I first started with linux, I could not get s good image burnt to CD. I can, however, burn a good net install. I did not go that route this time because I do not have a network port on this laptop, only a Wireless Linksys PC card.
Does anyone know why I can burn a net-install image OK but have problems burning complete images? I do not want to buy a PCIMIA network card just to install the base operating system, although I might have to. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I do have another question. If I install a PCMCIA wired network card, will Debian autodetect it the same way it autodetects the PCI network cards? It did not see my PCMCIA wifi card, but I didn't believe it would.

Thanks.
