i'm not sure, but considering this plus the links on post #9, i'd say you should try using an older kernel maybe, just to see if it works... at least you'd know where you stand, plus you'd be able to actually USE the drive... seems to me like a lot of folks had this drive working, but after a kernel upgrade it started acting all funky with the "mount: not a directory" stuff...
perhaps marcelo tosatti (kernel 2.4 maintainer) fixed this already in which case you should try the newest stable 2.4 kernel... currently it's 2.4.25... soon to be 2.4.26...
or perhaps it's an unresolved issue, in which case a bug report to marcelo would probably be a good idea...
Thanks. I downloaded an older kernal and will attempt to load that one and see if it works. The reason Libranet worked is becouse it was an older kernal. I have never compiled a new kernal so and help about this course of action will be appreciated. I will also get the latest kernal and try that. If not I will submit a bug report.
ps: you'd only need debian cd1 to get going, as you can apt-get everything else... but if you don't wanna download six-hundred some megabytes you can always use a net install cd (i recommend lord sutch's):
I have been unseccuseful in building a new older kernel so it might just be the thing. My Mandrake 8.1 might work but my cd is damaged I think for the systeminit won't install preventing a boot up. Assuming a fast mirror downloading should not be chore since the school I work at as a T-1 line.
Well, I downloaded bonzai and it works. Now all I need to do is configure a few odd devices and i'm set. So thanks for all your help I appreciate it. untill next problem.
