Hmmm, when you are in as root, what happens when you enter
startx
With Redhat, and I don't know why, they did not make the X test mandatory
during the install. Do you remember configuring X (video card, etc) as part of
the install?
In theory, if you get an error with the startx above, you can enter
redhat-config-xfree86
and it starts the X configuration gui. In my experience though, this is a
useless tool when a valid X doesn't exist.
Not having a non root user is not a big deal. Once you get X running, you can
simply add a non root user.
