Question RH9 in Toshiba Labtop A40... Problem

I'm new to linux and I installed RH9 on my labtop, but I have a problem with booting Linux. When I boot my machine, I get a message on a black screen asking me for : localhost login and password.
I have Celeron processor on my machine, i dunno if this matters. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanx

During the install, it asked you to enter a root password, and it also asked you to create a user with a password.

Enter the user name you created, with the password, or if you chose to skip the user create, the you
would log in as User: root Password: <the root password you created>

This is normal, you have to login as a user in Linux.

Thanks RolledOat, But the problem is that i dunno my user since it didn't ask me to create a user with a password, just the root password. When i log as a root, it immediately logs me in with the command line without a password, but i still can't run the GNOME or the x windows.

Thanx

Hmmm, when you are in as root, what happens when you enter
startx

With Redhat, and I don't know why, they did not make the X test mandatory
during the install. Do you remember configuring X (video card, etc) as part of
the install?

In theory, if you get an error with the startx above, you can enter
redhat-config-xfree86
and it starts the X configuration gui. In my experience though, this is a
useless tool when a valid X doesn't exist.

Not having a non root user is not a big deal. Once you get X running, you can
simply add a non root user.

I didn't find a reference to 'A40', but it might be listed under another name.
