Hey all,
Just downloaded the latest manddriva 2006 beta 3 and it is awesome. It detected everything including the ATi card and sett the display to 1280x800 automatically. it got the lexmark printer thatt refused to work with FC4...
I am impressed with mandriva. The clock seems to be running 2x. But thats a simple fix.
yea, I had a bad experience with a laptop before. It was about 1 month ago, on an old IBM thinkpad (pentium 150mhz cpu), and no distro would work on it. I eventually stuck openBSD on it, which I found was ok.
After much excitement with mandriva 2006, I'm beginning to change my opinion about it. True that it setup almost all the hardware right off the bat barring the media card reader and the wireless card, for some reason it now absolutely refuses to switch DMs to gnome and the ethernet is behaving funny.
I installed gnome as well as KDE on the first install and tried all kinds of ways to switch. It absolutely refuses. It instead switches to IceDM rather than gnome. In the next install I setup just gnome and no kde. Still the same thing. It booted up with Ice.
Regarding the ethernet, it works fine just after booting. Afer some minuted of usage, a ew websites later, it locks up. No data is transmitted or received. I cannot restart the service. That doesn't work as well. The only option left (atleast that I know of os to restart). If anyone knows of any other way do let me know. If anyone else has this problem let me know as well.
