Tearing problems on a T400 with intel gma 4500MHD

I have some trouble with tearing on my thinkpad t400 running slackware 14.1 (64 bit).

After playing around with acceleration modes in my xorg.conf, i found out that the acceleration mode "sna" with the option "tearfree" (set to true) makes the tearing disappear. (acceleration modes glamor and uxa don't)

But this causes another problem, while maximizing a flash video in firefox to fullscreen, it starts flickering and then xorg crashes.

So actually there are only two possibilities for me, tearing or xorg crashes.

Please give me some advice how i could solve this problem.

UPDATE: i tried compton, everything works now, but it would be nice to know if (and how) it's possible without this workaround.
