SUSE 9 PRO on Dell 5150

Have a Dell Inspiron 5150. Installed SUSE 9 pro from DVD as a dual boot.

When I boot into Linux, it ends up with the black screen and no input from the keyboard is accepted. I have to force it to shut down.

When I boot into Failsafe mode, I login as myself, then I am able to type "startx", and everything works just fine.

Had a Linux expert at work look into it, he played with the runlevels (changed it to 3 from 5), but to no avail.

I want to be able to login to Linux directly. Is there any hope?

Thanks,

Wow, I just found my answer on http://www.linux-laptop.net/

I had to change /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia file to external pcmcia instead of kernel. Great!!!

Now, if I can ask this. How do I get it to start in a graphical mode?

Thanks

Change your runlevel back to graphical mode. Not sure if SuSE does it differently but 3=prompt and 5=GUI on most if not all linux flavors....
