Hi,
I have installed Suse 10.0 on SONY VAIO VGN-FJ1S Laptop using 1 DVD evaluation version. All the installation went well. But during the hardware configuration, it's hanging at Sound card configuration. I waited about one hour and then restarted. Then i am able to log in to Linux, but immeditaely the system is shutting down on it's own saying "System is shutting down by root". This message is coming even if i am logging in as root.

Can any one suggest me how should i go about it?? Eagerly waiting to hear from some of you.

I had the same problem on the VGN FG1S and get crazy for while. I dont exactly how i sorted out but I remember than later I have other problem: didnt recognize the battery, the USB, screen,...

Solution: I installed Ubuntu. It was incredibly easy and no problem so far (I have been using around a year now)
PS. I tried Fedora as well and I had some trouble too.
