Screen size of the CRT monitor

Hi all!

I've been trying to prepare my laptop to work with external projector recently and found out a strange thing that on some monitors when plugging them to my laptop the size of the image doesn't fit to the screen size of the CRT monitor (Dell). ( 1024x768 resolution). I've spent a day playing with XF86Config , changing parameters extending the number of modes supported but it didn't help. In fact, on some monitors the image fits to the screen size (LG) .
More to say I suspect that it is not even a problem of my X configuration , as during the booting process the image and logging information of the booting system in text mode doesn't fit as well to the size I want it to. It is too big and I see only part of the text the rest is hidden.

Did anybody face the same problem? I've got only one day, otherwise must switch to Win, the thing I certainly don't want to do.

Thanks in advance.

This page may give you some ideas. It stands to reason that the CRT would have different
hsync and vsync values than the TFT, thus the difference in how text/graphics are displayed.
