RedHat on Acer 2003/1700

I am looking at the Acer 2003LMI or the Acer 1705SCI models for a new purchase.

Has anyone attempted an install of Redhat (or another Distro) on one of these units. I have read anything I could fine regarding Acers and Linux but I would feel much happier if there was some direct attempts on these models. As matter of fact I have an older TravelMate that works quite well with RH8.

Thanks in advance.
