RedHat 9.0 on Tecra 8200 - Mouse & video issue

Hello..

I was hoping to get some insight as to how to fix my 2 issues or at least have someone point me in a direction to do some more research on them.

The mouse problem I am having is that on the Tecra there are 2 little buttons that act as scroll buttons. These don't work and I haven't been able to find a way to get them to.

The video issue is when I go from an X session to a text session the video reverts to a 800 x 600 resolution box in the middle of the screen leaving a good 2in black border around the window. When I Alt-7 back into the X session the video goes back to normal and fills the screen.

Any help or pointers on these issues is greatly appreciated!! Since I am just learning Linux please be fairly general in any replies so I will be able to understand them

Thanks and have a good evening all!!

PS: Newbie to the site and I really like it. I will be visiting here often and hopefully helping others in the near future as you all have helped me over the past weeks =)

PPS: Got one issue taken care of, now I just have the 2 left above! Amazing what you can find on Google after trolling through pages upon pages.

Well I guess I was wrong when I thought that this site would be a good resource to find info on and help others with Linux issues on laptops.

It seems that when people post real problems that involve more than a reboot to fix there are 10 posts asking for irrevlavent info, 5 with incorrect fixes or suggestions, and 10 others with people complaining about the same problem. You may get a post or 2 with a nugget of tehcnical information.
Or the post gets read 50 times and no one even tries to help out with the issue.

Luckily no one replied to this issue so I was able to research it on my own and get it fixed with out having a Linux 'hax0r' screwing up my laptop with a fix that they 'thought' would work.

Maybe things are different on the desktop or the Enterprise threads, but I think I am done with this one.

Have a good day,
DF

Sorry your question didn't get the response you wanted, however, I think it's useful to point out that everybody here at LQ is a volunteer, doing their best to try to help out others in their spare time. You may disagree, but in my view I think the LQ membership typically goes out of its way to be helpful, and in the case where a question doesn't get answered, the reason is much more likely to simply be that:

* the people who have read the post may not have had any meaningful advice to offer, or
* the people who are knowledgable about the topic just haven't read the post

Again, everyone here is just a volunteer, helping out in their spare time. To suggest that "no one is willing to help out" really isn't the case. Anyhow, even though I guess you're done with LQ, best of luck with things in the future -- J.W.
