Problems with Xorg on an ASUS A6U, with Debian sid

Hi!

I've just installed Debian sid (kernel 2.6.15) on my brand new Asus A6U laptop. Everything seems fine except some problems with Xorg configuration.

First of all it refuses to switch to the correct resolution which is 1280x800 (it's a 15.4" widescreen). The only resolution which seems to be possible is 1280x768, that's fine too, though I get scaling horizontal stripes across the screen something is both annoying and hard on the eyes when reading.

The other problem is that I can't neither restart X nor switch to any of the virtual terminals. The screen goes blank and nothing happens whatsoever so I have to reboot. Though on startup I can see the framebuffer just fine. So I assume that this has something to do with X too.

The third problem is the touchpad. It has a sort of vertical scroll replacement (or a replacement for a scroll wheel, call it whatever you like). This scroll seems not to work at all.

The most annoying thing about this whole issue is that when I run SLAX (live distro, quiet nice btw), everything is fine. I have tried to replicate xorg.conf from SLAX. But with no luck...

Can somebody help?

Thanks

No expert, but if you dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg you can change the settings and might be able to select some different ones that will work. See if you can find the sync rates for your screen before you try this.
