Lenovo R500 & Linux

Installed Ubuntu 9.10. Worked perfectly. Upgraded to Ubuntu 10.4, wireless went intermittent. Reinstalled 9.10 & everything OK. After the latest updates, wireless went stupid like 10.4.
Tried Open SUSE. Wireless just doesn't work at all. Checked the Open SUSE forums & seemed like a problem with Open SUSE.
I think Ubuntu has gone to 10.10. Does any one know if they have fixed the problem with drivers for the Intel 5100 AGN.

Have put Win XP on it. Absolutely hopeless. Linux is so much faster than Windows it is unbellievable. I have to do something with this PC as it is virtually useless. AND I REFUSE to pay Microsofts price for Win 7. The prerelease version worked perfectly.

I have just got my wife using the internet & she doesn't like Windows. For a new user to prefer Linux over Windows has to say something,
Regards,
Lance Brown

Hello Lanceb,

there is a Linuxdriverpackage available on the Intel-downloadsite. Did you try that driver?
Did you use
Code:
lspci -v
and
Code:
lsmod
to find out which module is working for your wireless device?
It would be good to have the ouput of lsmod from a distribution that once worked. Maybe you'll try a Ubuntu 9.10 Live-DVD and look at lsmod.

Intel drivers

No, I haven't tried the Intel site. I'll download the latest version of Ubuntu & if I have trouble I'll check the Intel drivers.
I've got to do something, because Win XP is hopeless on this,
Thanks,
Lance
