moved harddrive from t61 lenovo to t60 lenovo, now cpu freezes

i moved my harddrive from t61 lenovo that had a widescreen to t60 lenovo that has a taller screen, not so wide, now cpu freezes, this usually jappens when trying to open a new window.

Other problems that occur are that my browser does not show the addresss bar or options other menu bar when I open a new browsing window even though I selected for it on my old window, I need to hit "F11" a couple of times for it to switch to the correct screen. Also, sometimes when I hit control tab to switch between windows, the other screens that are browsers that are open appear scrambled?

The stalling is the biggest problem. My mouse still works but I cannot access any of the open screens. It seems these problems are related but I am not sure. I am runing 8.10.

TIA

You mean you just took the hdd from one machine and plugged it into another?

The T61 and T60 are significantly different machines - processor, chipset and graphics card just to start with.

I'd be surprised if such a wholesale hardware change could be accommodated on an installed system - it's not like just swapping out a network card. Have you checked the system logs for any reported hardware errors or modules failing to load?

A lot of "fails" in my system log. Not sure which can be causing the problem. I guess the best route is to reinstall on new system but things work fine except for this problem.

Peter,
The previously installed system will have been configured to use specific modules and device firmware & drivers for your T61. The T60 will be a different configuration.

You *might* be able to attempt an in-situ re-configuration (does Ubuntu installer offer a "repair installation" option? that might work?) but IMO a clean install would be the safe bet.

If the swap had been say from a T61 with Quadro graphics to a T61 with Intel graphics then you might have got away with it. Things may *appear* to be running fine otherwise, but best case is you have a potentially unstable system !
