lan card detected bt nt accepting ip

i hav compaq presario M2000

when i worked in redhat linux enterprise 4 (2.6 kernel) my lancard nt working and when i give command like netconfig or ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.1 its shws me error "SCIOSFFLAGS ERROR , invalid argument"
although my realtek lan card is detected (shows by command "lsmod")

but when i installed redhat linux enterprise 3 ( 2.4 kernel) its working

i couldnt find the exact problem.
