Kernel Panic

Hello,

I am trying to install Vector Linux 5.1 Standard on a HP Pavillion with 700 mhz processor and 512 mb ram when i boot from the cd i get the message::

CPU 0:machine Check Exception:000000000000007
Bank 3: b4000000000083b at 00000001fc009c80
Kernel panic - not syncing: Unable to continue

does anyone have any idea how to get around this message or if the install can be completed at all?

Thanks in Advance,

Have you been able to run/boot any other OS on this computer? It looks like it might be hardware related.

Hmmm... Maybe the kernel on the disc isn't compiled properly? If you've been able to run other distros, that kinda makes me wonder a bit. Does it say what version of the kernel it's trying to use?

Installations usually come with a variety of different kernels for different purposes. It looks like the one it's trying to use is compiled with one or more CPU options that your hardware doesn't support. Try loading it with the bare_i kernel. Note: This will disable USB support during the installation.
