I only took off secure and TPM, but it did completely erase windows os from bios and it boots very well the first try. But, there was about an hour of updating lol, after that still no issue. The only thing I don't like 14.04 lts is the limited store, most programs I use (pycharm, intellj, chrome, more) aren't on there. So, I will give the other a try, I mostly use and like ubuntu because of work and I'm used to it, haha.
thank you again for the referral! I'll edit once I've tried it out.
I just recently installed Lubuntu on my desktop Dell Optiplex 760 and I must say it looks and runs really well. I haven't used a Buntu since when Ubuntu came out with Unity DE, but didn't keep it long. I may keep this one installed.
I personally like ubuntu, well budgie. So i persisted and got ubuntu 16.04 and upgrading to 18.04 budgie now. I'm using kern 4.4.0-137 generic and all is working very well, so studder at start up, sleep, suspend, closing lid and wakes up from it fine. The screen doesn't flicker, keyboard works, pad. Everything works as it is supposed too. Hope this helps.
Oh, base install was under 7 gigs, I don't remember the exact amount, I immediately installed intellj pycharm and all my stuffs.
I didn't realize you had been using Unbuntu at work and you are apparently very familiar with it. I am new to Linux so you can disregard my MX Linux suggestion.
I recently added my HP printer to my MX Linux OS and setup was so fast I figured there was possibly an error. Windows took about 20 minutes to set up. I then printed a page and it was lightning fast. It was so fast I thought the page came out blank but it didn't. I then printed the exact same page using Windows and I timed it: 28 seconds. Huge difference. I have been using Windows so long (and DOS before that) that I now have to expect the unexpected with Linux.
I also installed Wine on MX Linux and installed an old Windows pinball game just as a test using an .exe file. It went thru smoothly except the full screen feature malfunctioned. No big deal. I did this because I wanted to find out how other Windows programs might react should I decide to install them. Old habits are hard to break. I went to uninstall it using the Wine add/remove program uninstaller but it didn't show up in the menu. If you might know how to uninstall this please let me know. I also installed PlayOnLinux but haven't used it yet.
I have 26.54 GB left after the Linux install and used 6.61 GB. Our inexpensive Dell laptop seems to hold its own. For $125 I can't complain.
