HP 15-DY5035OD Laptop

Guys, my older Samsung laptop recently went to laptop heaven...

...so, after a brief period of grieving, I ventured out and purchased a new Hewlett-Packard laptop (model 15-DY5035OD), mainly due to it being an HP, wit :!: h Intel processor/graphics card, all of which, I have read, "play nice" with the Linux OS.

Well, I just installed Mint 21.3 (Cinnamon) and, in fact , the new OS installed "almost" perfectly; I noticed that, during the shutdown process, a group of messages appears quickly on the screen (too quickly to read), then the laptop powers down. This never happened on my Samsung laptop.

Do the messages refer to deficiencies in the installation, hardware or software?

Your assistance would be be greatly appreciated, guys. Thank you!

Thank you!

Yes, your numerous threads about it and your other purchases are evidence of that.

If you can answer two questions about them:
  1. What are these messages?
  2. Are they actually causing you a *PROBLEM*?
Then we can help you. Otherwise...they're just shutdown messages. What's the issue??

Answer Q1: Did you not read my post? I can't read them! They scroll by too fast and the laptop shuts down! I never encountered these issues on my Samsung laptop.

Answer Q2: I don't know. I never got shutdown messages on my Samsung laptop.

Sure did...and did you read/think about why that matters??? If you can't read them or post them, how exactly do you think we'll be able to tell you anything about what they might mean???

You don't know if you're having a problem or not??? Simple diagnostics can tell you:
  • Does it boot?
  • Does it work correctly after booting?
  • Do all your devices work?
  • Does it correctly shut down?
If you answer "Yes" to all of those, then your system would appear to be working correctly, right??? And since you can't tell us the messages, how do you expect anyone to tell you if there's anything wrong?? Could be a simple matter of the video mode switching before shutdown (probably), but again...no information=no guessing.

Again, is there an ACTUAL PROBLEM you're having, or are you just seeing something different and having a meltdown over it??

What exactly do you expect??? You post a 'problem' with zero details and somehow expect people to fall over themselves to try to help you??? Sorry...if you want that, then take your laptop to whatever shop you have locally and pay them to deal with it (and you). Otherwise, when you post on a forum, it means that *YOU, PERSONALLY* are trying to fix your own problem and learn. No one here can magically know what's happening on your system without you TELLING US. And you haven't. Again, as with some of your other threads, you don't post details or answer questions.

You were asked several very simple questions and haven't answered them. And again, seeing text on a screen isn't necessarily a bad thing because (AGAIN) they could be just normal shutdown messages. Just because you never saw them before doesn't mean they weren't there...because they were. If you press the ESC key you'll see both the startup and shutdown messages instead of a splash screen. The splash screen process is probably closing before the system is down. But (AGAIN) since you post no messages or actually tell us if there is an actual problem, there's zero anyone can tell you. If you did any basic research about this, you'd see quite a bit...have you done so???

The real question remains as to whether or not the OP actually has a PROBLEM with their system, or if they're just seeing some shutdown messages. OP was informed that the splash-screen could be exiting a bit early, and that startup/shutdown console messages are always present, even if they're not visible.

Until the OP actually tells us that device xxx isn't working, service yyy isn't working, or the system doesn't power off/on/boot correctly, there's zero reason to think there is ANY problem with the system.
