Hi everyone! I installed Slackware 10.2 on my Gateway laptop (SOLO 5300). Everything was great with the KDE desktop. I decided to install GNOME 2.12. I am also running the 2.6.13 kernel on linux. GNOME won't load now and the last line I have is "Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID/, removing from list! /root/.xintrc: line 31: /usr/bin/dbus-launch: Success
waiting for X server to shut down
When I type fc-cache, I also get the following errors:
Can't save cache in "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF"
Can't save cache in "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1"
I don't recall having this problem before installing GNOME. KDE does work fine as well as all the other environments. Any help would be appreciated.
It doesn't matter how I log in; if it's by using root or any other user, it cancels out. It does attempt to go in; the mouse cursor comes up, but then exits out. Thanks for the replies in advance. JF
I'd like to thank everyone for the support and responses. I don't know whether it might just be a hardware issue (graphic card probably) or what, but I'm going back to the KDE desktop. It worked well, but I just wanted to try GNOME out. The dropline-Gnome also failed. Unless someone has another solution, I'd try it out; for the moment, I'll go back to KDE. JF
