Gentoo video drivers for : Savage/IX-MV


Hey I have a Toshiba 2850 and I am trying to install gentoo. I am doing a stage 3 <---NEWB The video card in is Savage/IX-MV. Is there a "package" I can emerge to get the drivers? Sorry I am way newb to linux.

hmm, i might be missing something, but is it a ATI type card?


anyways, you can use the default drivers for it from the xfree/xorg package drivers, they are sometimes better then the proprietary drivers also

anyways, the "correct" drivers are only important if you want direct rendering (needed to play 3d games at a descent speed, or with medium to high quality) ...... the command

glxinfo |grep direct

should tell you if it is on for not, this needed to be on direct rendering if you have a 3d card, it will speed up things a lot
