Unhappy Savage 8 Video Card

Hey guys,
I'm using Slackware 10.0 with a Savage 8 on board video card. I know it's not the best by no means, but in Windows it does it's job. But when it comes to rendering graphics (i.e. openGL screensavers) it becomes very slow! I believe it's on average of 8fps! Eeps... in /etc/X11/xorg.conf I do have glx (i think that's what it was) enabled. Any ideas on how to remedy this?

Thanks guys! -JoeY

PS: Is there a driver for this to install? I didn't really do much to the video settings after the install. Just set up my ZAxis for the mouse.

You need to enable Direct Rendering Infrastructure on that card. That will involve building some DRI modules. So how do you do that, you ask? Well it just so happens I wrote a HOWTO for DRI on S3/VIA Savage card.

Make sure you read the whole thread because at the end I found an easier/quicker way to do it.
