Gentoo Please

So I own an emachines 5305 which has an infamous track record to begin with.

See these forums if you want to know more

http://www.dexplor.com/phpBB2/index....8034c4b7cf4afb

Besides that gentoo is the distro of choice and i have basically given up on it for my emachines.

I spent half of 2005 and 2006 try to get some sort of combination of framebuffer , driver , and xorg configuration to work out.

So i thought I would put it out there and maybe one of you fellow geeks has some insight.

I have gotten Ubuntu , Slackware, and a few other distros to work and quite well at that.

But for some reason my best friend Gentoo wants nothing to with my ungodly emachines.

btw ati320m chip.

You can always get xorg to work using the old "vesa" driver which supports just about anything. Afterwards you could try and install the ATI proprietary drivers. The easiest way is to take the standard Slackware xorg.conf file which always works, and modify it to your needs.

If you like source based distros, why not give www.sourcemage.org a try?

Let's start with specifics ... what do you want to work on first ?

Provide details ... and did you use the 2007.0 version ?

(By any chance ... have you inquired to the Gentoo Forums ?)

Well honestly it has been a while since I tried a Gentoo install on my laptop. My desktop runs Ubuntu, Gentoo, Sabayon, and Windows. I'm Duel booting windows and ubuntu on my notebook.

Last time I did an install on the notebook I used 2005.0. I was just wondering if anyone was sol with the ATI 320 chip.

you don't respond to his question, what problems do you have that need to be solved?

If it is your graphics card, I am quite sure that my method will work. Just take a backup of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and replace with the one provided by the link in my previous post.

Sorry I was being so vague with my problem. So last night I did an install from the 2007.0 live cd. Everything went well I played with the xorg.conf file for a while and installed some ati drivers and it is working quite well. I'm getting around 200 fps with glxgears, working on increasing that at the moment.
