How do I start installing stage 3 of gentoo from universal gentoo 2005-1?

How do I start installing stage 3 of gentoo from universal gentoo 2005-1?
I have the handbook? I still cannot even get past the boot device:
after typing gentoo,

I try to fdisk but I think I see hdb and not hda?

How do I do a stage 3 install of gentoo with the handbook? Total novice here.

If you have the handbook the installation is really self explanatory, the online handbook is more up to date than the one on your installation CD...

Since you are a total novice, it might be easier for you to use cfdisk rather than fdisk.

I think you would get better replies if you were more specific in your questions.
