Fn & XFree86

I've posted a thread previously and received some suggestions but, as much as I appreciate them, they didn't work.

Over the past couple of days, I have tried several programs, such as i8kutils and lineak, I have also upgraded all software on my system, installed a new kernel, and even downloaded the ati proprietary driver with no avail - my FN keys _still_ do not work..

Here's the weird thing: my fn+f8, toggle display crt/lcd, works in text mode but as soon as I enter X is does not.

Why??

Help is greatly appreciated,
Tom
