C&T 65550 / Xfree86 4

I finally managed to install Debian 3 on my old Tecra 730 xcdt. X works nicely when I use 1024x768@8bpp but when I try to set up Xfree86 4 to display 1024x768@16bpp it falls back to 800x600. The Graphics-Chip is Chips & Technologies 65550.
