your driver is es1968 from ALSA by ESS tech.
if you cant use alsaconf to configure then you might need to install ALSA from scratch.
first, your kernel needs to be modular for ALSA.
then you need 4 packages from ALSA

it might be confusing so make your own notes
configure alsamixer or kmix
and finally permissions
chmod 777 /dev/mixer
chmod 777 /dev/mixer0
chmod 777 /dev/dsp
chmod 777 /usr/bin/alsamixer
chmod -R 777 /dev/snd
the configure may not work or there might be a lot of road blocks to tweak so ...
